RULE

Language Standardization Rules (May 29, 2026)

The following [Language Standardization Rules] are designed to eliminate any discrepancies between card information and play that arise when card names differ across languages.

Language Standardization Rules for cards with [including XX]

In order to solve discrepencies with cards including [with (XX) in its name] or some version of [including (XX)], the [Language Standardization Rules] will apply as in the below cases.
Cards with one part of another Digimon's name in theirs will not be treated as the same card. However, in the case that there is a rule on the card, e.g. [Name: treated as having (XX)], [treated as having (XX) in its name], the rule in the text will be prioritized.

  • BT7-011
  • BT7-011

Name: treated as not having [Greymon].

  • BT7-011

Name: treated as not having [龙兽].

In any language, [BurningGreymon] (Japanese: Vritramon) can not be treated as having [Greymon] nor [龙兽] in its name.

  • BT14-052
  • BT14-052

Where there is a <Rule>, that <Rule> takes priority.
[Panjyamon]: <Rule> Name: treated as having [Leomon].

Language Standardization Rules regarding cards with the same name

For different Digimon that share the same name, the following [Language Standardization Rules] will apply.

  • ① In cases where [Language Standardization Rules] apply and a Digimon without the [Appmon] trait is referenced, you are only able to reference other cards that DO NOT include the trait [Appmon]. For cases where [Language Standardization Rules] apply and a Digimon with the [Appmon] trait is referenced, you may only reference other Digimon that DO include the trait [Appmon].
  • ② In cases where [Language Standardization Rules] apply, cards with the trait [Appmon], and those without the trait [Appmon], will be treated as cards of a different name.

Example 1: You CANNOT add [BT24-067 Hackmon] to your hand from the [On Play] effect of [BT6-009 Huckmon].

  • *Note: In Japanese, both cards are spelt "Hakkumon" (ハックモン), whereas in English they are different. This clarification is regarding cards that share the exact same name, while being different Digimon, in some languages.

Example 2: Through [BT1-084 Omnimon]'s digivolution effect, you may choose 1 of your opponent's Digimon and delete all Digimon that share a name with it. If you chose a Digimon with the trait [Appmon], you won't be able to delete any Digimon of the same name without the trait [Appmon].

We will also be revising the following card text along with the introduction of the Language Standardization Rules.

  • EX4-072 Digital Translator

As long as the Digimon is Lv. 6, you can reference the [that includes the chosen Digimon's name] part of the card text without limitation. Not only does this limit the freedom of design for Digimon both existing and new, but it allows the use of cards that would normally be disallowed under the Language Standardization Rules. For this reason, the card text will be revised.

  • Card Errata
    Before
[Main] Choose 1 of your level 6 Digimon. Ignoring digivolution requirements and without paying the cost, it may digivolve into a level 6 Digimon card in your hand with a different name that includes the chosen Digimon's name.
    After
[Main] Choose 1 of your [Gallantmon], [Sakuyamon] or [MegaGargomon]. From your hand, ignoring digivolution requirements and without paying the cost, it may digivolve into a level 6 Digimon card with a different name that includes the chosen Digimon's name.
